Preservation to Open Access: Transforming a digital repository into a more dynamic tool for campus and community outreach
While digital repositories are not a new concept, they originated as online versions of physical collections. Use was limited by publication and document type options, and collections remained underutilized. Our universities seek more dynamic relationships with both on-campus and global communities. By partnering with local and campus organizations and researchers, the digital repository allows access to a variety of materials and provides leverage for growing open access and archival collections with the potential for world-wide outreach. Our session includes representatives from two institutions (one a large, urban, state institution, and the other a small, rural, private university) that are on a mission to achieve similar goals. Acknowledging that schools of different sizes encounter unique issues, we will explore advantages/disadvantages of staffing and funding, and provide advice regarding building partnerships, providing metadata, and navigating copyright concerns.

Let’s celebrate partnerships in the community
As a small library in a small community partnerships mean so much. We are all connected in one way or another and working together is good for everyone. Cultivating partnerships in the community is all about relationships and networking and don't be afraid to think outside the box - unusual partnerships may be the best. Be a good neighbor! We attend almost every activity we are invited to by any of our community businesses. Partnerships in the community give a voice to the library and its services and it's a forum for promoting what's best and new at the library. Cultivating partnerships can be nothing more than being an advocate and always being ready to talk about the great things going on at your library. You have to be a friend to make a friend! Let's celebrate libraries and the partnerships that help make us a great place in a great community.

Redefining Cataloging
Fifty years after the introduction of MARC, bibliographic description still has the feel of typing a catalog card, but BibFRAME promises to change the nature of cataloging. The program will explore the shifts in philosophy that may be required of front-line catalogers, and ask if we can separate the spirit of cataloging from the tools we use to catalog.

Writing an effective technology plan, part 1
Using the skills and suggestions from this workshop, librarians, trustees, and friends will have a better understanding of a tech plan. This workshop empowers them with ideas and takeaways that help them write a realistic, effective, efficient technology plan. These plans, once refined and edited should be able to stand alone as documents and speak for themselves on the necessities of that location. Our goal is to help the libraries have a better understanding and have something to take away from the presentation to make their technology plan the best it can be.
