Electronic media and physical space reclamation go hand in hand. Do you break out in a sweat when you see a patron approaching the desk with an E-reader? Do patrons only talk to the hip, techie-looking library staff? Do you have an inner debate with yourself when you are asked to buy a print copy of a book when you already have copies in eBook and eAudio? Our collections have been shifting from Print to Electronic in recent years, and while this has relieved some of our physical space limitations, it has also created challenges for library patrons and staff. With space pushing us to explore alternate formats, we’ll discuss what steps we are taking to ensure positive experiences with all formats on both sides of the reference desk.
