By all indications, surveys, white boards, and focus groups, the University of Tennessee at Martin students want the library to offer more varied spaces for studying, creating (maker spaces), and collaborating as a group. Since there is no plan for a new library or major renovation, Paul Meek Library has to look towards space reclamation. We feel reclaiming space previously dedicated to traditional print collections, Reference, Government Documents, and main collection, to offer more varied workspaces is key to evolving our library’s offerings. The presentation will show how Paul Meek Library is dealing with the challenges of implementing a reclamation plan: determining the space to reclaim, developing collections to still offer the needed resources for our patrons, and finding the funds to implement the plan.
